Webinar Details:

You need to have dust explosion test data on your materials and powders to conduct a Dust Hazards Analysis (DHA) on your facility as required by NFPA 652. With the right strategy, this testing need not cost the earth. In this webinar, we’ll present a cost-effective approach for identifying the minimum, pertinent test data required to effectively support a DHA.

NFPA 652: Standard on the Fundamentals of Combustible Dust requires the owner/operator of facilities with combustible particulate solids or dusts to conduct a DHA, which is a systematic evaluation of potential dust fire, deflagration, and explosion hazards, and manage those identified hazards. NFPA 652 further requires that the DHA be based on laboratory test data of materials that are representative of the combustible particulate solids present in your facility. This data is most reliably obtained by conducting laboratory testing on dust sample(s) from your facility.

This webinar will discuss:

• A cost-effective, phased, testing protocol for determining dust fire and explosion risks for any particular handling/processing operation and establishing safety parameters.

• Laboratory tests, and when they’re needed, to determine powder and dust ignition sensitivity by the type of ignition sources associated with the particular operations and processing equipment in your facility.

• Laboratory tests, and when they’re needed, to determine the severity of a dust cloud explosion for establishing the required level of explosion protection (relief venting, suppression systems, etc.)

• Factors affecting the ignition sensitivity, explosion severity, and self-heating characteristics of powders.

Presenter Information:

Vahid Ebadat PhD, M.Inst.P, MIET, and C.Phys. is CEO of Stonehouse Process Safety Inc. He has worked extensively as a process safety consultant for the chemical, pharmaceutical, food, paper/wood, and other process industries globally for more than 30 years. Dr. Ebadat is a member of the NFPA 77 Technical Committee on Static Electricity.

Powder and Bulk Engineering is presenting many webinars throughout 2020 to meet the educational needs of those who are currently handling powder and bulk solid substances. These webinars are an extension of the educational information we provide to you each month.

PDH Information:
If you are working on a certification or licensing program that allows Professional Development Hours, CSC Publishing Inc. will (upon request) provide a Certificate of Participation for our educational webinars put on by Powder and Bulk Engineering. One certificate per registered participant will be sent if the webinar is viewed. You should check with your employer or local agency to confirm their specific PDH requirements. In many cases, our educational webinars will contribute toward these hours.

Can’t attend? If you register for a webinar but can’t attend the live event, an archived version will be accessible online once it concludes. This allows you to view the entire webinar presentation and Q&A session at a time most convenient to your schedule.
