The Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA) has renewed its commitment to Operation Clean Sweep, an international program to prevent resin, pellet, flake, and powder loss as well as to eliminate pellets from entering the environment through oceans and waterways. CPIA’s latest initiative involves getting all partnering companies to agree to participate in the program by 2022. The organization’s goal is to have 100 percent of plastic packaging reused, recycled, or recovered by 2040. Originally founded in the US, the formation of the North American Plastics Alliance introduced Operation Clean Sweep to Canada in 2012. The alliance includes the CPIA, the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc., and the plastics division of the American Chemistry Council.
