On March 23, 2021, a fire and subsequent explosion in a seed cleaning facility in Silverton, OR, killed one worker and injured another. Firefighters responded to the fire around 9 a.m. at Riches Seeds, which is about 6 miles south of Silverton. Firefighters were told that multiple individuals may be trapped in the building, but once the fire was under control after an hour, just one person was found on the second floor.

Officials have stated that they suspect a dust explosion caused the fire that then spread through the second story of the building. No firefighters were injured during the incident. (6-21)
