An Olam Spices and Vegetables plant in Las Cruces, NM, experienced three fires in 2020. In September, the plant had two fires within days of one another. None of the incidents resulted in injuries. The most recent fire on December 7 had heavy smoke and appeared to have originated from a conveying system. The fire was quickly extinguished, but firefighters remained on scene to help clear the smoke.
An earlier fire on September 28 was in a commercial roaster and a ventilation unit. According to fire investigators, residual matter on a conveyor belt may have contributed to that blaze. On September 30, another fire was contained in a piece of processing equipment in another part of the building.
The company is part of Olam International and offers sustainable, natural, value-added food products and ingredients in the categories of cocoa, coffee, edible nuts, spices, and dairy.
