Campbell Soup Co., Camden, NJ, has announced plans to close its manufacturing facility in Columbus, GA, by spring 2022. The plant employs 326 individuals and pro-duces candy, crackers, cookies, nuts, and bars. The company reviewed the snack division’s manufacturing operations before making the decision to close the plant, citing its age as a factor that makes retrofitting difficult. The plant was acquired in 2018 as part of Campbell’s acquisition of Snyder’s-Lance.

The company will operate the plant for up to 18 months as it shuts down the facility in stages. All impacted employees will receive support, including severance or separation packages, career counseling, and transition support. Founded in 1869, the company manufactures snacks, soups, simple meals, and beverages.
