Whether an open hood, a receiving hood, or an open-faced enclosure, if the “physics of airflow” is ignored in the design, undesirable fugitive dusting is the result! Hood airflows exert decreasing influence on suspended dust particles with greater particle momentum due to process conditions. Room drafts will also interfere with dust hood performance. The presentation will review the key design consideration for common dust collection hoods and enclosures with illustrations from the author’s experience.
