This column describes how to apply the fundamentals of equipment erosion to prevent or minimize erosion in your equipment.
Using an understanding of erosion fundamentals will allow you to manage many erosion challenges with long-term reliability. In general, you can manage erosion by slowing the particles down before they hit the equipment surface; choosing equipment built with harder materials or with hardened surfaces; choosing equipment with replaceable parts; or using particles to protect the equipment surface. Which solution to use depends on your equipment materials and your applications.
