Selecting a continuous level measurement system for your operation
A continuous level measurement system indicates how much material remains in a storage or process vessel and reduces the chances that a process line or loadout operation will run out of material. This article provides a framework for choosing a continuous level measurement system by describing some of the equipment available and discussing the advantages and disadvantages of the equipment in light of the specific problems in measuring bulk solids.
Unlike a point level indicator, which signals only that the material in a storage or process vessel has reached or exceeded a predetermined height, a continuous level measurement system continuously indicates how much material is in the vessel. Continuous level measurement systems, typically mounted at the top of a vessel, use plumb bobs, electric probes, sound waves, radiation, and other methods to measure the material level.
