Tips for choosing a pallet-wrapping method

Pallets loaded with small bags or bulk bags of dry bulk product must be wrapped to protect the packages and stabilize the pallet load for shipping, handling, and storage. Three methods for wrapping your pallets are available: stretch-wrapping, thermal shrink-wrapping, or hood-stretching. This article explains how to select a pallet-wrapping method that will meet your - and your customer's - requirements.

When choosing a pallet-wrapping method - stretch-wrapping, thermal shrink-wrapping, or hood-stretching - you need to consider more than just the costs of the pallet-wrapping equipment and wrapping film. You also need to examine several other factors, as shown in Table I, to realistically compare the methods and their suitability for your needs. Before we examine these selection factors, let's take a brief look at equipment, operating details, and pros and cons for each pallet-wrapping method.
