How to design a successful processing and handling system
This article explains how you can plan and implement a dry material processing and handling system that operates at design capacity. Information covers identifying your material's flow properties and using an engineering approach to design the system.
Planning to design and start up a processing and handling system for a dry bulk material? Whether the system will go into a new plant or simply expand an existing operation, it probably has about a 50 percent chance of success. In Table 1 you can see that in a survey of various synthetic fuel manufacturing plants -- some handling bulk solids and others handling liquids or gases [or both] -- the solids plants reached only 49 percent of design capacity on average, while the liquids-gases plants achieved 84 percent on average.
