Proper application and installation of belt scales

A belt scale is often added to a conveyor as an afterthought, without regard to how the conveyor will affect weighing performance. This creates a conveying system that weighs with questionable accuracy, rather than an accurate weighing system that conveys. To increase your belt scale's accuracy, you must pay special attention to the adverse conveyor conditions that affect weighing performance. This article discusses these conditions and recommends ways to minimize or eliminate them.

Proper application and installation of a belt scale can "make or break" your conveyor weighing system. A belt scale isn't an independent weighing device. When installed on a conveyor, the belt scale becomes a conveyor component. As such, its performance and accuracy is often dependent on the conveyor's design and operation.
