Multiple-disk feeder is the only choice for tough coal-feeding application
To burn cleaner coal, a utility optimized the feed to its hammermill.
Commonwealth Edison Company [Com Ed] produces electricity at 16 power plants for the northern fifth of Illinois, which includes about 70 percent of the state's population. At their Kincaid, Ill., plant the utility operates two identical cyclone-fired 591-megawatt electricity-generating systems. Since the two systems came on line in 1967 and 1968, their furnaces have consumed more than 68 million tons of coal and generated over 141 million megawatt-hours of electricity.
