Choosing Between a Mechanical and a Pneumatic Conveyor

Date:
Tuesday, January 8, 2013

Time:  12:00 PM (Noon) – 2:00 PM EST

Presented by:  Jack Hilbert and Paul Solt

Moderated by:  Robert Harkin, Associate Editor of Powder and Bulk Engineering

Webinar Cost:  $99.00 USD

Registration fee is non-refundable after the live event.

Webinar Details:

The webinar will compare the primary differences between Pneumatic Conveying and Mechanical Conveying. Advantages and disadvantages of each approach, as well as operating parameters such as energy requirements, maintenance and availability, will be highlighted.

The mechanical systems that will be considered are belt, screw, aeromechanical, and bucket conveyors and chain-conveyors. The pneumatic systems will include both vacuum and pressure as well as dilute- and dense-phase.

The webinar will compare mechanical and pneumatic systems in the following areas:
  1. Capital Costs
  2. Operating Costs
  3. Safety Considerations
  4. Energy Consumption
  5. Environmental Concerns (both atmospheric and plant as well as noise)
  6. Product Quality Concerns
Wherever possible, the webinar will focus on quantitative comparisons, but qualitative comparisons will also be made. The webinar will treat individual topics separately and also provide a summary table for a "snapshot" analysis.

This 2-hour webinar, moderated by Robert Harkin, Associate Editor of Powder and Bulk Engineering, will consist of a PowerPoint presentation followed by a question and answer session. Don’t miss this opportunity to benefit from Paul and Jack’s expertise!

Presenter Information:  Jack Hilbert, PE, is a consultant with Pneumatic Conveying Consultants and has more than 30 years experience in the application, design, engineering, installation, and operation of pneumatic conveying systems. He also has written numerous papers and given many presentations at technical conferences.

Paul Solt is principal consultant at Pneumatic Conveying Consultants in Allentown, Pa. Paul has been working in the field of pneumatic conveying for more than 50 years, and he has been writing his PBE column, “Pneumatic Points to Ponder...”, for nearly 20 years. He presents seminars on pneumatic conveying for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Center for Professional Advancement in New Jersey, and other organizations. He also holds several patents for pneumatic conveying devices.

PDH Information:  If you are working on a certification or licensing program that allows Professional Development Hours, CSC Publishing Inc. will (upon request) provide a Certificate of Participation for our educational webinars put on by Powder and Bulk Engineering. One certificate per registered participate will be sent if the webinar is viewed. You should check with your employer or local agency to confirm their specific PDH requirements.
