Kitty litter manufacturer searches for drying solution
Vibratory fluid-bed dryer dries material, reduces weight percentage.
When Chett Boxley earned his PhD in analytical chemistry in 2003, he had no idea that his research would lead him to become the general manager at a kitty litter manufacturing plant. However, his company, PURR-fect Solutions LLC, Salt Lake City, makes no ordinary litter. Rather than using sodium bentonite clay, the primary ingredient in conventional litter, the manufacturer produces litter using fly ash, a coal-fired power plant by-product consisting of alumina and silica oxides. "Our manufacturing process is environmentally friendly, because it eliminates the need to strip-mine for sodium bentonite clay and it utilizes fly ash that would otherwise be dumped in a landfill," says Boxley.
