Many-layered test procedure ensures a match between material and equipment

Krauss Maffei uses several testing steps and full-scale drying equipment to help a detergent-additive manufacturer.

Late in 1987, a manufacturer of a detergent additive came to the Krauss Maffei test center in search of alternative drying technology to improve its product quality and plant output. The manufacturer's direct-heated rotary kiln was thermally degrading the detergent additive during drying. The overheated material stuck to the walls of the rotary kiln, fouling the machine's insides and decreasing its operating capacity. In addition, impurities in the overheated material were affecting the material's activity level, which created problems when the manufacturer's end user processed it.
