Flour producer increases extraction rate with scale conversions and process controllers
When a West Indies flour mill updated mechanical scales by retrofitting them with load cells and microprocessor-based controllers, the flour extraction rate was fine-tuned and milling operations improved.
National Flour Mills [NFM], Trinidad, West Indies, operates two flour mills [mills A and B], a rice milling facility, a soybean oil processing plant, and a feed mill. The company makes more than 30 products from wheat, rice, and soybean. They also package more than 40 products for other producers. In addition, NFM produces animal feed and sells bulk corn to other animal feed producers. Products are packaged in 0.5-, 1-, 2-, 5-, 10-, and 45-kilogram bags. Although most NFM products are distributed in Trinidad and Tobago, the company also exports product throughout the Caribbean.
