Mixing powders into liquids is a critical step in manufacturing a wide range of products, including pet foods, inks and toners, drywall compounds, cleaning agents, toothpaste, and hair products, to name a few. Traditionally, blending powders into liquids is done in a mixing vessel equipped with one (or more) high-shear impeller or other mixing device. But this method has some inherent downsides, the major one being the mixing problems created by adding powder to the liquid surface in a vessel. These problems limit productivity by extending processing times, wasting material, requiring frequent vessel cleaning, and creating other challenges.
