Screener prevents screen blinding and improves efficiency
A mineral producer installs a five-deck screener to improve screening efficiency and increase production.
McCabe Industrial Minerals, Davis, Okla., produces 50,000 tons of rhyolite head-lap granules each year for asphalt shingle manufacturers in Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. Rhyolite, a granitic stone, is mined from a deposit near the plant. After the raw material is delivered to McCabe as 3/8-inch stones, it's dried, crushed, and screened to grade. Reducing and screening the rhyolite to the correct particle size -- 10 mesh -- is crucial. When a series of problems began to plague the screening operation, the company knew something had to be done.
