Rather than manually handling paper bags, a china plant installs flexible screw conveyors to efficiently move materials from bulk bags.

Trucks deliver bags containing three forms of feldspar, as well as china clay, ball clay, and bone ash, to Lenox China's Kingston, N. C., plant. Feldspar is hatched and mixed with water in a high-shear mixer designed for viscous, abrasive slurries; the mixer uses intermeshing stationary and rotating vaned turbines. Pumps move the mixed slurry, which has a specific gravity of approximately 1.8, to a ball mill that reduces the slurry components to a specified size distribution.
