Dust Collection: Dust Collection System Troubleshooting to Control Fugitive Dusts, 4/11

CD of live broadcast 4/5/11

This is a repeat and update of Gary Johnson's 2010 webinar.

Dust collection systems are widely used in powder handling industries. They help retain valuable product so it can be sold, and they control dust levels to meet hygiene occupational exposure limits and minimize fugitive dust accumulation in the workplace. This webinar will review how a dust collection system works, describe the failure modes that cause the system to exhaust dust poorly or not at all, and highlight troubleshooting techniques to identify the problem areas early while corrective actions require minimal work.

Presenter: Gary Johnson
Before forming the consulting firm Workplace Exposure Solutions, Gary worked in health, safety, and environment at Procter & Gamble for 27 years. His focus areas were dust control system design and maintenance, process safety around flammable vapors and combustible dusts, and environmental emissions and discharges. As a consultant over the last 9 years, he has helped clients in consumer products, pharmaceuticals, plastics, paint and coatings, wood processing, specialty chemical, and metal forming industries. He is active in technical training for clients and at several national conferences as well as the OSHA Training Institute. He has written numerous articles on dust collection system design and maintenance and meeting combustible dust requirements. His past technical committee memberships include the Industrial Ventilation Committee of the American Conference of Government Industrial Hygienists, publishers of manuals on industrial ventilation system design and maintenance, and the team updating the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering Baseline Guide for Oral Solid Dose Forms (EH&S chapter co-leader). He recently joined the just formed ANSI/Z9.12 Subcommittee that will write a new national standard on "Combustible Dust Collection Systems".
