Minimizing particle momentum to control dust generation in your process

Limiting dust generation in your process won't eliminate the need for a dust control system with capture hoods or enclosures at your dust sources. But it will help your dust control system reliably control your dust and perform at optimum levels for many years. This article details how to limit dust generation in your process by minimizing particle momentum at dust sources.

When a process generates excessive dust, plant managers frequently invite a dust collection engineer to the plant to increase the dust control system's exhaust airflow or add more dust capture hoods or enclosures to the system. But adding more exhaust air to an existing dust control system is an expensive way to fix powder handling and process design problems. At minimum, airflow through the system must be rebalanced, and significant lengths of ductwork may have to be replaced to maintain the dust conveying velocity for the increased airflow. What's more, the system's existing dust collector and fan may be undersized for the higher airflow.
