Conveyor-drying agglomerates: Four tips for improving energy efficiency and product quality

Drying is an important but often overlooked step in processing agglomerates and can add value to the final product in many ways. The process can reclaim solvents from granulated specialty chemicals and pharmaceuticals, create chemical changes during catalyst production, raise the energy value of solid fuel pellets, and activate binders in charcoal briquets. One effective method for drying agglomerates is to process them in a continuous conveyor dryer. This article gives four tips for improving energy efficiency and product quality in this process.

Many bulk materials are agglomerated to help them flow more easily, improve their storage and handling characteristics, and reduce dusting. A conveyor dryer is often used to dry such agglomerates, including specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, catalysts, and charcoal in the form of granules, pellets, beads, balls, extrudates, tablets, or briquets. The conveyor dryer offers two major advantages for drying agglomerates
