Foundry's valve maintenance problems flutter away after installing new butterfly valve

After a foundry's standard butterfly valve sealed inadequately, a valve with an inflatable seat sealed properly.

The J. I. Case foundry in Racine, Wis., manufactures castings for construction and agricultural equipment. At the foundry, trucks deliver lake sand for cores, which are used within molds to give castings their internal configurations. A pneumatic conveyor transfers the sand from the trucks to an approximately 100-ton-capacity sand bin. An airslide moves the sand from the bin to a sand heater-cooler, which controls sand temperature so the sand will properly mix with catalyst and binder during core formation.
