Dust Doctor: Dust control system balancing
No matter how well a dust control system is designed and installed, there's a good chance that the system won't control dust as expected if you don't balance it properly at startup. You must balance the airflow through all the branch ducts to maintain the design airflows through the capture hoods and pickup points and effectively control dust. Most industrial exhaust systems are designed with dampers so the system's airflow can be balanced by adjusting the dampers.
Be aware that some systems are designed using the static-pressure-balance method. Although such a system has no balancing dampers to adjust, you should still check the system at startup to ensure that design exhaust air quantities are flowing through all the branch ducts.
