Low-profile screener provides high throughput rates
A producer of dry powder blends installs a low-profile round screener to enhance finished-product quality.
PolyOne Corp., headquartered in Avon Lake, Ohio, produces a range of dry powder blends at its Geon Performance Materials Plant in Pasadena, Tex. For each customer, the plant custom-formulates a blend consisting of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin powder and specialty additives. After blending and screening, the finished product is packaged in 1,500-pound-capacity bulk boxes for transport to customers. About 2 years ago, one customer requested an extra screening step for its product, so plant personnel installed a homemade screener just before the boxing step to avoid oversize particles in the finished product. Unfortunately, the homemade screener slowed the product flowrate into the boxes, which increased fill times and decreased production efficiency. To improve this final screening step, the plant worked with a manufacturers’ representative to find a better screener.
