When everything is working right, Owens Illinois' facility in Huntington, W. Va., has the ability to produce 1.8 million glass containers a day for the liquor, pharmaceutical, and food industries. As recently as December 1987, however, the container manufacturer was having production problems, resulting from material bridging in its soda ash bin.
