Seals stop spontaneous system shutdowns
A protein powder manufacturer solves its equipment leakage problems by installing air-purged seals.
DMV International, Delhi, N.Y., manufactures protein hydrolysate powders for the food, nutritional, and pharmaceutical industries. To process the powders, the company breaks down different proteins, such as casein, whey, and soy, with enzymes or chemicals. The protein powders are then bagged and shipped to customers to be used in baby formulas, weight lifters protein powders, and other products. The company was having problems with the seals failing on its bagger and blender, allowing the powder to leak out of the equipment and into the plant environment and causing unscheduled system shutdowns. After replacing the seals numerous times, the company decided that it needed to find an effective way to eliminate the leakage problems along with the associated maintenance and downtime.
