Principles of radio frequency moisture measurement

This paper explains the basic principles of radio frequency moisture analysis, discusses the variables to consider in deciding between using dielectric loss or dielectric constant for a particular application, and explains the operation of a unit based on frequency-sweeping resonance technique.

Water exhibits several characteristics when energized by radio frequency fields. Two of these properties, dielectric constant and loss tangent, have been used for many years to provide an empirical measure of moisture/solid ratios.
