Survey confirms: Use of form-fill-seal bagging is growing

Do you use several hundred thousand bags or more per year to package your dry product? And are you concerned about leaking bags, slow bagging rates, or the high cost of labor and potential worker back injuries with your conventional bagging operation? If so, you may be considering a switch to form-fill-seal bagging. In Powder and Bulk Engineering's May 1994 issue, a consultant answered common questions about form-fill-seal bagging. This article updates the 1994 article with information on the status of form-fill-seal bagging, as well as trends and advances in the technology. The information summarizes the author's survey results from form-fill-seal bagging equipment manufacturers.

In late 1995, six companies that manufacture form-fill-seal bagging equipment for industrial-sized [25- to 110-pound] bags were asked to complete a survey about the status of form-fill-seal bagging. Before summarizing the survey responses, let's briefly review some form-fill-seal basics.
