Classifying pellets with a circular vibratory separator

Separators [also called classifiers or screeners] sort dry bulk materials by size. The units can be rectangular or circular and pass undersize particles through one or more screen deck using vibration, gravity, or centrifugal force. Models are available to handle products in various particle size ranges. This article discusses the circular vibratory separator and how it's used to classify pellets by means of vibration. Sections cover how the equipment works, understanding the vibratory motion, and how to vary the material flow pattern. Additional information describes types of circular vibratory separators, including their design features and capacities, and how to select a unit for your application.

A circular vibratory separator classifies pellets about 1/8 inch in diameter. While its primary application is classifying extruded plastic pellets, the equipment can also classify several other extrudates, including animal feed and chemical catalysts, as well as other materials, such as pharmaceuticals and ceramics.
