Minimizing batch error in automated batching

Replacing a manual batching scoop and platform scale with an automated batching system is a common way to increase production and improve batch reliability in bulk solids processing plants. Yet the faster batching achieved by an automated system can also increase weighing errors, leading to batch accuracy problems. This article explains what's behind these problems and how to minimize them.

In switching from manual to automated batching, a typical goal may be to double your production rate -- for instance, to increase from a manual production rate of 60 batches per hour (1 batch per minute) to an automated production rate of 120 batches per hour (2 batches per minute). The challenge, however, is to increase your batch production rate while maintaining batch accuracy within your desired tolerance.
