Binders for size enlargement: An update
Very few agglomeration topics create as much interest or generate as many questions as the subject of binders. By definition, a binder can be an inherent ingredient of a given material or an added solid or liquid ingredient that improves the bonding forces and final durability of a pellet, granule, briquet, or extrudate. Since my last article on binders in Powder and Bulk Engineering, I've seen continuing interest in the subject, as evidenced by questions from PBE readers and others. The following update includes information about new binders, the changing ways familiar binders are being used, and some recent studies on binders.
