Replacing a dusty flake
A cooling conveyor manufacturer shows a petroleum producer how to process its by-product into pastilles rather than dusty flakes.
When oil refineries make their products -- gas and oil -- they're left with various thick, dark, sticky residues called pitch. It's a messy by-product, but to the refineries' good fortune, it can be put to use in other industries. However, these by-products can be difficult to process into a usable bulk solid and to ship. One refinery, which wanted to find a better way to handle pitch and eliminate dust associated with its processing, sought the help of an equipment manufacturer's test center.
