Factory is sweet on new heat exchanger
A sugar processing factory installs a heat exchanger to improve sugar cooling and reduce energy costs.
Headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, the Raffinerie Tirlemontoise SA (Group RT), a member of the SÜDZUCKER AG Group, operates a sugar processing factory in Brugelette, Belgium. For 3 months each fall, the Brugelette factory operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, extracting and refining sugar from regionally grown sugar beets to produce ready-to-use crystalline sugar. In 2005, the factory installed new equipment in the crystallization workshop's processing line to update the sugar production. However, the new equipment discharged the crystalline sugar at a higher temperature than the previous equipment did and the factory’s existing cooling system was no longer able to cool the sugar to the appropriate temperature for storage. To prevent storage problems, factory engineers began searching for a more effective cooling system.
