Southern Products & Silica Co. Inc., Hoffman, N.C., produces specialty sand and gravel products for a range of commercial and industrial uses, including water and chemical filtration and industrial sandblasting. In the past, the company manually bagged the products by weight in several different types of bags and then manually palletized and shrink-wrapped them before putting the pallets on trucks for transport to customers. However, this process was inefficient and caused high operation and labor costs, so the company decided to look for a better way to bag and palletize the products.
