Vertical mill reduces calcium carbonate to 25 microns in one pass
In-house milling enables Philippine importer to keep market share.
South Pacific Chemical Industries, Manila, Philippines, began importing ground calcium carbonate [GCC] from Taiwan in the early 1970s. The company supplied the mineral powder to plastic manufacturers for use as filler. In 1974, Vy Liam Bu, the owner of South Pacific Chemical, found a limestone quarry 200 kilometers from Manila. This gave him the idea to process the limestone in the Philippines instead of importing the GCC from Taiwan. The benefit was clear: "I could save the sea freight and make my product more competitive in the market," Vy said
