Rhone Poulenc Basic Chemicals Co., Morrisville, Pa., produces various phosphorus-based industrial chemicals. One such chemical is phosphorus pentasulfide [P2S5], a dry, yellow, hazardous, hygroscopic granular material. P2S5 is an additive that improves motor oil's lubrication properties. The chemical is also used in rubber and pesticide production and by the mining industry as a flotation agent.
