Venturi eductors improve conveying of dense, abrasive, and fine materials

When rotary airlocks for a recycler's furnace slag and slag dust wore quickly, leaked air, and reduced conveying efficiency, the recycler installed venturi eductors, which improved conveying.

Sanders Lead, Troy, Ala., recycles automobile batteries -- an otherwise hard-to-handle product unsuitable for normal landfills -- in a regulated, environmentally controlled plant. The battery recycler receives truckloads of batteries from 49 states. A belt conveyor moves the batteries to automated crushers [hammermills and saws] that break apart the batteries to separate the plastic casings and the lead. A belt conveyor then moves the casings to a compounding and extruding plant for recycling.
