Filtering out the negatives
A ceramic-core producer replaces a wet scrubber with a new air filtration system to recover solid particles and
eliminate high maintenance costs.
Fair-Rite Products Corp., Flat Rock, Ill., produces ceramic
cores that protect electronic devices by filtering electromagnetic interference (EMI) from incoming power lines. The ceramic cores are widely used in the automotive, computer, and telecommunications industries.
In the past, the company used a wet scrubber to remove solid particles and chlorine gas from the air discharged
by two calciners. However, because the company couldn’t recover the solid particles the wet scrubber
removed, and because corrosion of the wet scrubber led to high maintenance costs, the company decided to
install a new air filtration system that uses two primary dust collectors and a dry scrubber collector.
