Elbows solve wear problem
A wastewater treatment facility installs five new specially designed elbows in its lime conveying system to reduce dust leaks and downtime caused by material abrasion.
Alexandria Sanitation Authority [ASA], Alexandria, Va., operates the city's advanced wastewater treatment facility. The facility produces Class B biosolids that are used as a land-applied fertilizer in agricultural applications. One step in the treatment process -- conveying powdered lime from a storage silo to two day silos -- was proving to be a challenge for the facility. The lime eroded through the conveying system's elbows too quickly, causing dust leaks, excessive downtime, and inefficient operation.
