Classifying a finer particle
A company installs a new combination static and turbine classifier to generate a steeper particle size distribution of coal and coke particles.
Graymont Western US Inc., Townsend, Mont., uses a bowl mill and classifier at its nearby Indian Creek plant to process coal and petroleum coke that’s used as fuel to heat a rotary kiln there. In the past, the company used a static classifier to classify the particles sent to the kiln for combustion. When the company switched coal suppliers and started using coal that needed to be reduced to a finer particle size, it found that the static classifier couldn’t generate the required particle size distribution. The company decided to look for a new classifier to accomplish this..
