Wear liners for hoppers, transitions, chutes, and spouts in material handling systems are available in several types to handle different forms of abrasive wear. After classifying forms of abrasive wear, this article describes wear liner types, including their advantages and disadvantages, and tips for selecting and installing a liner.

Abrasion, or abrasive wear - a fact of life for those of us handling bulk solid materials - is the gradual removal of the base surface in material handling system components as the result of contact with the bulk material. The contact can be caused by the impact or sliding of materials such as aggregates and whole grains or the impact of high-velocity dust particles on the base surface of a hopper, transition, chute, or spout.
