Screening tests help perlite processing facility increase production
After successful screening tests, a perlite processing facility selects screeners to increase output.
Since February 1997, Cornerstone Industrial Mineral Corp., Lakeview, Ore., has been mining and processing unexpanded perlite for horticultural, construction, and industrial applications. The perlite is drilled and blasted from the ground at the Tucker Hill quarry in Lake County, Ore. The large perlite chunks are then crushed into smaller chunks and stockpiled at the quarry until they're transported to the company's processing facility in Lakeview. At the facility, the perlite is again reduced in a crusher before being sent through a rotary kiln drier to remove excess moisture. The unexpanded perlite is then screened into different grades.
