Agglomeration Advisor: Working with green agglomerates

When you agglomerate fine materials for size enlargement -- by pelletizing, extruding, and briquetting them, for example -- you often have to make critical decisions early in the process, during equipment selection and design, testing, pilot plant operation, and scale-up. These decisions can influence both your operating efficiency and the final product quality. Here are answers to commonly asked questions about the handling of uncured [that is, green] agglomerates.

Q: What's the best way to handle green agglomerates? A: As usual, there's no single "best" way. It depends on the type of agglomerate -- whether it's a greenball pellet, moist extrudate, or uncured briquet, for example. But one rule of thumb is to always treat freshly made agglomerates gently.
