Stockhausen GmbH, Krefeld, Germany, belongs to the Performance Chemicals division of Degussa AG, the world's largest maker of specialty chemicals. Stockhausen's sole business is making and distributing a range of hydrophilic polymers known as superabsorbents. The superabsorbents, sold under the name Favor, are made in Krefeld and at two plants in the United States. Annual capacity is 250,000 metric tons, and production was valued at € 480 million [US$432 million] in 2000.
