Metal detection and separation offers picture-perfect solution to photographic slide-mount manufacturer

After metal damages grinder blades and clogs injection-molding-machine nozzles, a photographic slide-mount manufacturer installs metal detection and separation equipment to aid with recycling.

Loersch Corporation, located in Allentown, Pa., injection-molds photographic slide mounts from general purpose, high-heat polystyrene. Virgin, raw polystyrene pellets arrive at Loersch by bulk truck and are loaded into a silo for storage prior to mixing. When an operator starts a mixer, 450 pounds of the virgin pellets and 50 pounds of reground polystyrene from a regrind storage tank are pneumatically conveyed to the mixer, which then mixes for a predetermined time.
