Conveyor component ends jams at sinter plant
By replacing idler stands with an impact slider bed, Weirton Steel's sinter plant reduced idler maintenance costs by 75 percent.
Until 1985, Weirton Steel Corporation's sister plant in Weirton, W.Va., experienced difficulties with the idler stands it employed in its bulk handling conveyor systems. The trouble stemmed from the idler bearings, which wore out frequently, initiating a chain of time-consuming and costly problems.
