Weighing terms and definitions

Weighing equipment is a key in the receiving, processing, and shipping of powders and solid material. In his book Weighing and Proportioning of Bulk Solids, Hendrik Colijn provides for more than 350 weighing terms. Some of the most common are reprinted here.

Accuracy: 1. The degree of correctness with which a measuring yields the true value of a measured quantity. 2. Conformity to a standard within applicable tolerances. For example, a scale or weight is said to be accurate and is ordinarily used without correction if, upon being tested, the scale is found to have errors not exceeding the applicable tolerances.
